Curated + Signal Artist James Weber - Art for “Anti-bullying” at Galerie Shibumi - NYC
For those who know James Weber’s work, The Pugilists is more than portraiture. It’s ritual. Memory. Masculinity stripped of performance. A collision between vulnerability and force rendered through wet plate collodion and the visual language of another century.
Tomorrow night, that work enters the room again — this time in support of something deeply aligned with its spirit.
At Galerie Shibumi, James joins Play Is Power, a group exhibition celebrating youth, athletics, resilience, and self-determination.
And this exhibition gives back directly.
A portion of proceeds from the artwork sales will support Harlem Free Fight — helping children gain confidence, discipline, community, and the ability to defend themselves against bullying through martial arts training.
There is something profoundly honest about that connection.
The fighter.
The protector.
The child learning they are not powerless.
The image becoming action.
